Small Grants for SBOC Alumni

The Friends of SBOC Alumni is a part of the Friends of SBOC that raises money for students through sales of student art cards and direct donations. Proceeds from card sales will be available for small grants to selected SBOC alumni who complete senior year and need financial help to continue their education and training. A total of $3000 is available for 2010-11.
Who Can Apply
Graduates of SBOC who complete senior year of Seattle Public Schools and who attended SBOC for at least one semester since Fall 2007.
What Grant Money Can be Used For
SBOC alumni can apply for money to help pay for:
- Books or supplies required for educational program
- Test fees such as SATs, GREs, etc.
- Help with tuition
- Application fees (college applications, etc.)
- Help with transportation (e.g., Metro bus pass)
Other needs will be considered. Grants will be paid directly to the institution, bookstore, or agency at which they will be used. No checks will be issued directly to students.
How to Apply
SBOC alumni can: print out an application from the Friends of SBOC website, pick one up at the SBOC or other school or community site, or have an application mailed to them by calling Martin O'Callaghan. When completed, applications should be sent or given to:

Students can apply as often as needed and can receive up to $250 per school year. Students can apply at any time during the year.
How SBOC Alumni will be Selected for Grants
A committee of teachers, community volunteers, and the SBOC principal will review applications and award funds as they come in. Grants will be given based on:
- Clear statement of need for the grant and how it will be used
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education - academic or vocational
- Grade Point Average in school
- Written essay
- Recommendation from teacher, counselor, or community member
